Welcome
Dear Colleagues
On behalf of the organizing and scientific committee, we are honoured to welcome you at the 3rd International Rehabilitation Conference “The critical role of the rehabilitation workforce in primary care and health system enhancement” organised by the Faculty of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences of Metropolitan College in Greece on 8th and 9th November 2024.
Building on the success of addressing current rehabilitation needs of people, communities and populations at the two previous conferences, the 3rd International Rehabilitation Conference will be a great opportunity for service users, practitioners, academics, students, researchers, associations and service providers of the Rehabilitation field to address interprofessional issues, citizens’ rights, health promotion and public health policy making. The theme of the conference focuses on Primary Care and Workforce the two primary axes of the initiative of World Rehabilitation Alliance (WRA) of World Health Organisation (WHO). The Institute of Occupational Sciences & Rehabilitation of Metropolitan College participates as the only academic organisation from Greece. Since its inception in 2022, WRA has served as a unifying platform for all rehabilitation stakeholders to collectively advocate for rehabilitation, support implementation of Rehabilitation 2030 and ensure that rehabilitation becomes a part of Universal Health Coverage.
Rehabilitation in Primary Care provides the first contact for people to receive diverse promotive, protective, preventive, curative, rehabilitative and palliative services that enhance health and wellbeing. The Rehabilitation Workforce is a diverse collection of professions and specialisations that provide interventions, optimise functioning and citizens’ wellbeing and reduce disability. Primary care, Workforce and Rehabilitation needs traverse all areas of medicine, health professions, technological development and community services, including musculoskeletal, neurological, mental, sensory, respiratory, cardiovascular, and cancer related disorders. Rehabilitation services are frequently fragmented among many specialties away from community or the primary care system, comprising a minor area of interest. This highlights the need for team-based primary care approaches that promote awareness, education and research to all relevant stakeholders. The ultimate goal is to bridge gaps in service delivery, ensuring that individuals, communities, and populations receive comprehensive care throughout their healthcare journey. The scientific programme of the conference will feature keynote presentations, a diverse range of symposia topics, interactive poster sessions, and workshops, run by leading practitioners, researchers, service users, caregivers, policy makers and rehabilitation stakeholders.
We are confident that this international forum will foster fruitful discussions and contribute significantly to the advancement of the WRA and the Rehabilitation 2030 initiative.
Once again, we extend our heartfelt welcome to all participants and look forward to an inspiring and productive conference.
